JVC recently unveiled a beautiful line of bonsai-laden Kirikabu speakers at this year’s Tokyo Designer’s Week. Created out of eco-friendly plastic, the conceptual series of speakers can be assembled into different shapes, and each contains a small compartment perfect for planting a tiny bonsai tree!

It seems that hardly a week passes before Dubai’s prospective skyline is updated with plans for yet another soaring skyscraper or incredible development. The latest world-class superstructure to grace the modern megopolis is Anara Tower, an ambitious project crowned with an eye-catching propeller-shaped peak. Designed by Atkins Designs Studio and Developed by Tameer Holding Investment, the 2,150 foot tall skyscraper will be aiming for LEED silver certification when construction begins next year.

WEmake’s beautiful Beryl and Friends lamps are composed from cast-off bases and lampshades that have fallen out of favor. The designers carefully refinish each component and then recombine them to eclectic effect, re-wiring and re-stocking them with low energy bulbs. Beryl and Friends were included in (re)design’s ‘Lighten up‘ exhibition at 100% Design at this year’s London Design Festival.

With only two days left until Election Day here in the U.S., it seems as if the very fabric of our society is under microscopic scrutiny in this critical presidential election showdown. And with good reasons, as there is a lot at stake with heated environmental, economic, and political turmoil pulling at the frayed threads and purse strings of our daily existence. We believe that there is no better time to step up in sustainable style and ‘Vote The Environment’ as a testament to being responsible about the shirts on our backs as well as the steps that we take and the footprints that we leave. We implore you to get out the vote this Election Day, and do your homework regarding the candidates who are putting the environment front and center.

Patagonia is a company that has been campaigning with this message all season long, and as advocates for clean green living (and voting), they have created several completely recyclable shells and jackets that serve as smart protection for the stormy days ahead. Change is indeed in the air, and why not gear up with sustainable products that have your back, your future, and your best interests in mind.

New York’s Madison Square Garden has taken on a Swiss-Family-Robinson feel lately. This is due to an art exhibition featuring work by Tadashi Kawamata called Madison Square Tree Huts, which emerged completed on October 2. A gathering of small wooden houses up in the trees, folks passing through the park might find themselves grinning upward with wonderment at these small structures meant to shake up our notion of public space and how it interacts with ideas of urbanity, rural romanticism and play.

In this season of specters and spooks, what could be scarier than a steel-winged robotic spy plane shaped like a bat? The aptly named COM-BATis a six-inch surveillance device that is powered by solar, wind, and vibrations. The concept was conceived by the US military as a means to gather real-time data for soldiers, and the Army has awarded the University of Michigan College of Engineering a five year $10-million dollar grant to develop it.
